Nirjala Ekadashi fast story
According to legend, Bhimsen, the second brother of Pandavas, was very fond of eating and drinking. He could not control his hunger. All of them used to fast unto Pandav and Draupadi Ekadashi. Bhima was very sad because he was not able to keep fast because of hunger. They felt that by doing so they were disrespecting Lord Vishnu. He went to Bhim Maharishi Vyas about this problem. Then Maharishi told Bhima that he would fast for the Ekjas Ekadashi fast once a year. He said that the fast of only Nirjala Ekadashi is equal to 24 Ekadashi of the year. From this time onwards, this Ekadashi began to be known as Bhima Ekadashi.
